The Homeland Security Foundation of America to Offer President’s Volunteer Service Award

HSFA is proud to announce the availability of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of volunteer commitment.

The Homeland Security Foundation of America (HSFA) is working to deploy its Mission Template in each U.S. congressional district and meet the needs of communities nationwide. HSFA volunteers serve America, their neighborhoods and the community in many ways, conducting public safety days, distributing family protection materials and adding value on important HSFA initiatives. Programs like Project Green Village and Ready Roadmap USA help bring permanent stability to local communities, improving public safety and creating real opportunities for long-term economic prosperity. These grassroots initiatives are powered by volunteers who care deeply about the future of America and are willing to make volunteerism a part of their lives on an ongoing basis.

Today HSFA announced the availability of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of volunteer commitment. Established in 2003, this new Award is given by the President of the United States and honors individuals, families and groups who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service over the course of 12 months.

As a Certifying Organization of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, HSFA plans to nominate potential recipients and distribute the Award to those who meet or exceed the Award criteria.

“We’re honored to join the President of the United States in recognizing volunteers who consistently take time to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Eric Brown, president of HSFA. “Recently we’ve seen big companies suffer from self-serving agendas, impacting smaller businesses and families nationwide. At the same time, we’ve seen the overwhelming results achieved when everyday people pull together during times of crisis, disaster and economic difficulties. These challenges underscore the need for volunteerism at every level and in every community. Our volunteers strengthen HSFA and America, and they inspire others to get involved. We’re proud to honor those who are answering the call to duty with this prestigious award.”

Volunteer service hours are not limited to those performed on behalf of HSFA. In fact, service hours can be accumulated through work on a variety of projects throughout the year. The only requirement is that the necessary hours be completed within12 months; recipients can qualify for a new Award each year.

“Volunteering is a life-enhancing experience not a life-changing one,” said Phil Sumner, Vice President of HSFA. “We encourage every capable person to serve their country on an ongoing basis and strive to earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award each year. You don’t have to change your entire schedule around or alter your life dramatically, just incorporate a volunteer routine as you would a new exercise program. Make room in your life each week to volunteer in your community and you’ll see the difference one person can make in a short period of time. Remember, the strength and success of our nation depends on every one of us taking an active role in the community where we live. And, don’t stop there – get your friends, families and neighbors to join you. Most people say ‘yes’ if asked to volunteer – all you have to do is ask.”

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation – created by President George W. Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers make to our nation.
