HSFA Will Host A Town Hall Meeting at Hilton At Easton In Columbus Ohio On July 17, 2018 From 9:00 A.M. To 12 P.M. to Have A Discussion On Active Shooter Awareness And Preparedness

“Active shooter awareness is about being prepared,” said Eric Brown, President, HSFA. “In order to save lives during active shooter attacks, citizens must have a greater awareness of active shooter threats and preparedness strategies and be trained to make that life-saving decision to run, hide or fight and not necessarily in that order.”

The keynote address for the Columbus Aware town hall meeting will be delivered by Dr. Gregory A. McDonald, D.D.S., F.I.C.D., K.T.J., Chief Forensic Odontologist, State of Ohio, Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. After the keynote address, audience members will be able to engage a panel of homeland security and law enforcement experts in a Q&A session.

Recent data shows incidents in schools and businesses represent 7 out of 10 active shootings. Some of the country’s most high-profile mass shootings have occurred there, including Sandy Hook, Columbine, Virginia Tech and San Bernardino. HSFA officials say the organization is working to conduct active shooter awareness town hall meetings in all 435 congressional districts. With immediate plans to serve hundreds of districts over the next few years, the organization has committed to continuing the Aware campaign, focusing on active shooter awareness and preparedness, for as long as the threat exists.

“Aware gives us a unique opportunity to engage the public in a meaningful way that allows us to share our message of public safety while empowering citizens to ensure their voices are heard,” said Brown. He went on to say HSFA is planning to host town hall meetings in three more districts in OH during the month of September, which is National Preparedness Month, and will continue on the Aware campaign trail with events in Atlanta, Orlando, Philadelphia, New York and Washington, DC.

The Aware public safety campaign is a series of events, training opportunities and outreach activities conducted by HSFA designed to increase the public’s awareness of active shooter threats and preparedness strategies through community outreach and a series of town hall meetings.
